Robert can help you decide whether imaging is appropriate and provide an order when the examination is suitable for your care. Your scan is performed and billed by an outside imaging center. Review and follow-up of scans Robert orders are included in your $123 consultation.
Carroll Health & Wellness works with University Radiology. You may also use another imaging center that accepts your order.
What Robert can help arrange
X-ray — Bone, joint and chest imaging can help assess selected injuries or symptoms. Some concerns need an in-person examination first.
Ultrasound — Images of organs and soft tissues can help assess concerns involving the abdomen, kidneys, bladder, thyroid, scrotum or pelvis. The exact study depends on the concern.
CT — Cross-sectional images can provide detail about organs, bones and other structures when this would help answer a clinical question.
MRI — Detailed images of the brain, spine, joints and other tissues may be useful after assessment. The insured-MRI process is explained below.
Mammography — Robert can review breast-screening needs and order an appropriate mammogram, performed at an outside imaging center. He reviews and communicates the report. If your results need further evaluation, Robert will explain the next step and recommend an appropriate women’s health or breast-care provider. Mammograms, breast ultrasound and breast MRI answer different questions.
Bone density — DXA bone-density testing assesses bone health. It is different from a DXA body-composition study.
A video assessment may identify a need for an in-person examination or specialist evaluation before imaging.

How to arrange your scan
Receive the appropriate order and instructions through your patient portal.
Confirm that the imaging center performs the exact examination and accepts the order. Ask whether it needs a printed order or accepts a digital copy.
Confirm the current price or insurance requirements, including who will arrange any authorization and whether it is complete.
Follow the center’s preparation instructions and ensure the report will be returned to Robert.

Costs and insurance
University Radiology’s listed self-pay charges are paid in full at service, and it will not submit an insurance claim for services under these self-pay terms. Ask University Radiology to confirm the total for your exact examination, including any separately billed services. Ask for a written estimate.
Carroll Health & Wellness does not bill insurance for consultations. An imaging center may bill your plan separately, depending on your coverage, examination and location. Self-pay prices are not insurance cost estimates. An order does not guarantee authorization or payment; orders and supporting records must describe the actual clinical reason.
MRI using insurance
A self-pay MRI may be ordered when appropriate. Under this practice’s current University Radiology process, MRI requests using insurance are referred to an appropriate outside physician specialist for evaluation and ordering. The specialist decides whether to order the study, and your plan determines authorization and coverage.

Results and follow-up
Tell the practice through your patient portal where and when imaging was completed. Carroll Health & Wellness tracks its orders and reviews received reports. Robert explains your next steps, including when specialist care is needed. This review and related follow-up are included in your consultation.
If an expected result has not appeared, contact the practice rather than assuming it is normal. A separate consultation for a new concern or ongoing management is discussed and agreed before booking.

Heart calcium scans
A calcium-score CT is a prevention and risk-assessment test for selected adults without symptoms. It can help guide a prevention decision, including when the benefit of cholesterol-lowering medicine is uncertain. It is not a test for current chest pain or an automatic annual examination.
A zero score does not exclude all coronary disease: plaque without calcium can be missed. The score does not show how narrowed an artery is. Robert considers the radiation exposure and whether the result could change your care, including whether a repeat scan would help.
The supplied University Radiology price is $99 for the scan, separate from Carroll Health & Wellness’s $123 consultation. Confirm the current scan charge before booking.
