Bring the question you want to discuss. You do not need to choose the right service or test before your visit. Robert can help with common illnesses, medication and supplement questions, preventive care and appropriate testing through scheduled video visits for adults in New Jersey.

Your consultation is with Robert Carroll, MSN, FNP‑BC, a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. Visits are for adults 18 and older who are physically located in New Jersey during their appointment.

Some concerns need a hands-on examination or care from another clinician. Robert will explain the options and help you understand the next step.

Sick visits

When you’re feeling unwell, Robert can assess colds, cough, sore throat, hoarseness, flu, COVID-19 symptoms and other common viral illnesses, then discuss symptom relief, treatment options and whether testing is needed. Some mild eye symptoms and styes can also be assessed by video.

Ear pain and possible ear infections can be reviewed, although confirming an infection often requires an examination of the ear canal and eardrum. Flu and COVID-19 treatment can be time-sensitive; seek prompt care if an appointment cannot be confirmed soon enough.

Work & school notes

If illness keeps you from work or school, Robert can assess your symptoms and provide medically appropriate absence notes or visit documentation. Notes reflect your assessment; employers and schools determine their own acceptance requirements.

Weight management

Discuss medical weight management, including your goals, health history, nutrition, activity and previous treatment. Robert can explain medication options, including whether a GLP-1 medicine may be appropriate, and discuss necessary testing and follow-up. Medication costs are separate. Ongoing treatment requires an individual follow-up plan.

Allergies & sinus care

Help with seasonal allergies, sneezing, a runny or blocked nose, postnasal drip, itchy or watery eyes, and sinus pressure. Robert can review allergy medicines and assess a possible sinus infection. Antibiotics are prescribed when the assessment supports them.

Medication & supplement questions

Get help understanding medication instructions, inhaler use, side effects, over-the-counter products and supplements, including possible interactions. A one-time refill may be appropriate for established, stable, noncontrolled asthma, blood-pressure or diabetes treatment. Records, recent readings or lab results may be needed. Ongoing treatment requires an agreed care plan or follow-up with your usual prescriber; unstable conditions may need more comprehensive care.

Tests, screening & results

Have a particular test in mind? Bring the question to your visit. Robert can help you decide which screenings or diagnostic tests make sense for your age, symptoms, history and risks, and arrange appropriate testing through an outside laboratory or imaging center.

Services include diabetes and cholesterol screening when indicated, selected tests for evidence of immunity, vaccine-record review and help understanding existing lab reports. Actual testing costs extra. Immunity-test results do not guarantee school or employer acceptance.

Robert can also review breast-screening needs and order an appropriate mammogram, with imaging performed by an outside provider.

Travel health

Get ready for your trip with advice based on your destination, itinerary, medicines and health history. Discuss motion sickness, travelers’ diarrhea, malaria prevention and recommended vaccines. Oral typhoid vaccine and selected standby treatment may be prescribed when appropriate.

Vaccinations and services requiring an examination are arranged with an outside provider; the practice does not administer vaccines. Antibiotics are not appropriate for every traveler.

Vaccines & travel

Skin & rashes

Help with mild acne, previously diagnosed rosacea, eczema, contact dermatitis, mild poison ivy reactions, localized insect bites, suspected ringworm or athlete’s foot, lip cold sores and dandruff. Clear photos through the patient portal may help. Symptoms needing a hands-on examination, specialist assessment or procedure require in-person care.

Digestive symptoms

Talk with Robert about nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, upset stomach, indigestion, heartburn, acid reflux, uncomplicated constipation and possible stomach-virus symptoms. Discuss hydration, symptom relief and whether medicines may be contributing. Severe or localized pain, bleeding, persistent vomiting or inability to keep fluids down needs prompt evaluation rather than waiting for a routine video appointment.

H. pylori care

Discuss H. pylori, a bacterium that can cause stomach inflammation and ulcers. Robert can assess whether an outside-lab breath test is appropriate, discuss treatment if infection is confirmed, and arrange follow-up testing to check that it has cleared. Follow your individual preparation instructions; do not stop medicines on your own. Lab and medication charges are separate.

Muscle & joint pain

Discuss back or neck pain, muscle aches, overuse symptoms, joint discomfort, or follow-up after an injury already assessed in person. Robert can review your symptoms and records and recommend suitable treatment, outside imaging or referral. Significant injuries and symptoms requiring a hands-on examination need in-person care; a video visit cannot rule out a fracture.

Birth control

Discuss starting or continuing birth-control pills, side effects and requests for an extended supply. Recommendations depend on your health history and necessary measurements, including blood pressure when appropriate. IUDs, implants, injections and pelvic examinations are provided by outside clinicians.

Urinary tract infections

Talk with Robert about burning with urination, urgency and frequent urination that may be caused by a urinary tract infection, or UTI. Treatment depends on your symptoms and history; urine testing or an examination may be needed. Fever with back or side pain, inability to urinate or other concerning symptoms needs prompt evaluation.

Vaginal health

Discuss itching, irritation, odor or discharge, including possible vaginal yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis. Robert can recommend testing and treatment based on your symptoms and history. Similar symptoms can have different causes, so a swab or in-person examination may be needed. Cervical screening and pelvic examinations are arranged with an outside provider.

Erectile dysfunction

A straightforward conversation about difficulty getting or maintaining an erection, your health history and possible treatment. Robert will review medication interactions and relevant cardiovascular risks before prescribing. Further evaluation may be needed. Testosterone treatment is not offered.

Pharmacy choices and medication costs

STI testing & treatment

Discuss symptoms, possible exposure, or testing for sexually transmitted infections, also called STIs or STDs. Robert can order appropriate outside-lab tests and provide treatment when suitable for video care. Treatment may sometimes begin before results return, based on your assessment. Some infections need different types of samples, an examination, injections or specialist care.

Positive syphilis results are reviewed and referred for appropriate in-person evaluation and treatment when needed. Testing too soon after exposure can miss an infection, and a standard panel does not test for every STI.

Possible recent HIV exposure? Seek urgent evaluation immediately; preventive treatment must start within 72 hours. Do not wait for a routine appointment reply.

The City of Elizabeth STD Clinic at 418 Palmer Street, Elizabeth, lists free STI testing and treatment for eligible Union County residents, excluding Plainfield. Confirm referral requirements, appointments and available treatment with the clinic before traveling.

Review and follow-up of results from tests and imaging ordered for your visit are included in the $123 consultation. Medicines, testing, imaging and outside-provider care cost extra.

Robert will explain when an examination, procedure or another service would better meet your needs. This practice provides scheduled, non-emergency video care for adults; it does not provide on-site procedures or comprehensive ongoing primary care.
